The Importance of Effective Communication Skills for Me

As we step into the information age, there has been an increasing importance of delivering information exactly and efficiently. Consequently, communication skills, which mean the ways how we deliver information, have become more and more important to every single person in modern world. Personally, communication skills influence me in mainly two aspects of my life: relationship development and career establishment.

Most people would not like to make friends with those they have difficulty communicating with. Taking a friend’s speech in a wrong way is really embarrassing. Effective communication skills can help me to express myself more clearly and understand my friends more precisely, thus being of great benefit for building and keeping relationships.

In addition to that, in my future career, I will always need to communicate with my boss and colleagues. We need to have an effective communication so as to cooperate well and finish our jobs quickly and correctly. The communication with my customers is even more important. A successful communication could help to make a great business while a bad one may even do harm to the reputation of our company. Therefore, effective communication skills are really important to me at work.

In conclusion, communication is vital in both my relationship development and future career establishment. Moreover, besides these two key aspects, communication also happens at almost every minute in my daily life. Thus, it is significant to master effective communication skills to make life better and easier.

  1. Hey Leo! That's very true indeed and I could not agree with it more. Communication is really very important at work, and even in school. Recently I had to meet up with my professor for FYP and because she'd forgotten to add in a word 'at' in her email, confusion was caused with the time I had to meet her. Hence, even the simplest thing can cause confusion sometimes with the way we convey our message across to the other party.

Yes, and I think that communication is vital in our daily lives too. The above is just my two cents' worth =)

  3. This is a very clear, concise and coherent discussion, Leo. I like the way you develop your ideas while focusing on your specific needs.

There is only one series of statements that seem odd, content-wise, to me:

"In addition to that, in my future career, I will always need to communicate with my boss and colleagues. We need to have an effective communication so as to cooperate well and finish our jobs quickly and correctly. The communication with my customers is even more important."

Really? Is communication with your customers MORE important, or equally? If you can't communicate with colleagues, you could have serious problems even before you meet customers, or not?

In any case, thank you for this fine effort!

  4. Hi, Brad. Thanks for your comment.

By saying "the communication with my customers is even more important", I meant that this kind of external communication is very likely to affect the reputation of the company, so it seems more important than the internal communication with my colleagues. However, after a second thought, I think you are right. Ineffective communication with my colleagues would affect our working efficiency and quality, which are also vital to a company.
